Vishnu with his Consorts

Bronze

11th-12th Century

Ganga Period, Eastern India

Height: 9½″, 23.5 cm

Vishnu is standing on a square plinth, straight as a post, on a lotus. He is dressed in an elaborate dhoti and jewelry. With his four arms he is holding his attributes, the wheel, conch, club and lotus bud. His consorts are probably Shri Devi (Lakshmi) and Bhu Devi. Both are standing on a lotus, with one holding a club, the other a lotus bud. He is surrounded by an oval halo with flame tips. At the very tip of the base in front of Vishnu is the Garuda.
