Yemeni/Saudi Battle Sword

Late 19th Century.

Length: 21½″

Swords of this type were said to have originated in Ethiopia where they were made with Rhino handles. When the swords were exported to Yemen the Rhino handles were often removed. This sword is of extremely fine quality and most beautiful for this region in its simplicity. There is a combination of high quality silver, brass and copper. The top section of the sword has 8.5cm of silver and a handle with 3 buttons. The center is wrapped with heavily worn leather that has 11 silver studs and a buckle. The curved bottom portion of 9cm is brass overlaid with silver. The double- edged blade is sharp and has a blade-sharp point.
